In December 2018, we started the English Negotiators Course at UFRGS in Porto Alegre. The course was run jointly with our partners at Meeting Negociação.
This course is designed as training in negotiation skills through English for non-native speakers, whether working in law, business or other areas. We feel that language can be a barrier to professionals when negotiating with international counterparts across the world.
Therefore, the course goal is to train language and communication skills for negotiations in English and help our students prepare their own approach to future negotiations efficiently using available tools in negotiation theory and language.
The course format mixes a coach-led approach with student-based practical work within dynamic groups. Most importantly, students get to work on cases in English in groups, thereby developing their approaches in practical scenarios.
Here is what one of our students had to say about the pilot course:
“The course was a great experience. It was a nice way to practice English and I believe it will be very useful for future negotiations (in competitions and in real life). I think the content covers the basics for negotiating in English, like what type of sentences should we avoid using and the ones we should use to be better understood. The material has a nice design and is well structured. The cases for the simulations were well made. The course is really interactive, so everyone has a chance to speak and train, which, I believe, is the main objetive of it.”
We are certain that the English Negotiators Course can be of value to students and professionals of various ages and backgrounds (from high school or university students interested in careers in business or law to lawyers wishing to engage with international clients and cross border legal issues).
Therefore, the course will be specifically tailored to your demands and can be run in-company.
