Counseling – A new initiative focused on client relations and development of soft skills.
Counseling (“Competição Brasileira de Aconselhamento Jurídico a Clientes”), the Brazilian client consultation competition, will be held for the first time next year on March 8, 2020 in Slap.hub, Porto Alegre.
This project is Latin America’s first competition for law students with a focus on client relations and soft skills development, which is supported by the International Client Consultation Competition – ICCC.
In 2019, Brazil attended the ICCC for the first time in history with a team from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro composed by students Letícia Bastos and Caio Tabet and coaches Julian Cornelius and Camile Costa. The result was inspiring: after lots of learning and making contacts, we reached the semi-finals, placing Brazil among the 9 best teams in the world. After this experience, our team started focusing on bringing this completely new project to Brazil by organizing the Brazilian ICCC stage.
Since the most important figure in a lawyer’s career is the client, our mission is to prepare law students to conduct effective meetings with their clients, which requires strong communication skills, such as the sharing and seeking of information and a skillset for the creation of legal strategies that best suit the client’s real interests.
The competition will explore human skills (so called “soft skills”) such as active listening, effective communication, empathy, collaboration, flexibility, strategy and creativity, which will be used by law students in their first meetings with new clients (played by professional actors).
The winning team will have their place to represent Brazil at the Brown-Monsten International Client Consultation Competition. (ICCC), April 2020, Florida – USA. More information about how the competition works and how to register your team (in Portuguese and English) can be found on our competition website.
The registration process for participation in the competition is now open and we are also looking for partnerships with Brazilian institutions to help us develop this pioneering field in Brazil and South America going forward.
Please get in touch with me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like more information or would like to arrange a presentation by our executive committee at your offices.
